The Big Avocado is one of Australia’s big things, found at the entrance of Tropical Fruit World in Duranbah New South Wales. It is one of two big avocados, the other is out on the Pacific Hwy before exit.
The difference between the two is the one on the highway is an avocado halved with the stone visible and is accessible on the side of the highway at any time. The one here is a larger whole avocado and is just inside a fence with closing gates.
To get up close it is best to go when Tropical Fruit World is open, although the avocado isn’t far from the fence and you can get a photo of it easily enough without needing to jump the fence after hours.
The Big Avocado is 4 metres in size, built around 1983. Back then, the attraction was called Avocado Adventure Land, hence why there is a Big Avocado there.
To get there:
Heading south on the Pacific Hwy, take the Tween Valley Way exit towards Murwillumbah and follow for about 3.5km, turning left into Cudgen Rd at the brown sign for Tropical Fruit World. Follow Cudgen Rd for 2.1km, it becomes Duranbah Rd. Tropical Fruit World is on the left and the Big Avocado is inside the entrance towards the right.
