The Big Fighting Whiting is a promotional big thing at the Historical Village in Hervey Bay. It was donated to Hervey Bay in 1974 when the town was known as the Town of the Fighting Whiting.
In 1995, the Fighting Whiting became the subject of a prank. The big whiting was completely covered with Colmalco Al-foil with a sign attached saying “Try doing that with a cheaper foil”! – without getting caught!!
It was moved to the Hervey Bay Historical Village in the 2000s when it was considered to be demolished. It now fittingly continues to promote at the historical village that declares itself as being bigger than it appears.
