Borumba Deer Park is a family-owned and operated campground near Imbil, 4 kilometres before reaching the Lake Borumba picnic area .
As the name hints, the park is set within a deer farm. It resides downstream from Borumba Dam along Yabba Creek which flows through Imbil and into the Mary River. You can find turtles and, if you are lucky enough, platypus making their home there.
Camping is the primary reason to come to Borumba Deer Park. There are choices of camping spots along the creek, open areas, and beside the deer enclosure. Powered and unpowered sites are available for campers and caravaners. For those who don’t want to bring their accommodation with them, there are cabins available.
Activities revolve around the creek and the animals, Water activities including kayaking, SUPs (Stand Up Paddleboards), swimming and fishing. For the animal lovers, there are farm animals including handfeeding of the deer, pigs and goats.
Pets are welcomed to accompany you for a few dollars extra, with some conditions to ensure the park is enjoyed by all. It is mostly common-sense stuff, such as keeping them as quiet as possible, on leash at all times, and pick up after them are some of the conditions. There is an off-leash area where you can let them run free for a while.
Most camp sites have a spot for a fire, some have log seating around them. For cooking, there is the camp kitchen and several gas BBQs for use.
To Get There

From the Bruce Hwy heading north, take exit 244 heading to Lake Borumba. Turn left at the end of the exit onto Old Bruce Hwy and follow for 4.6km. Turn left into Kenilworth Skyring Creek Rd at the brown sign for Tourist Drive 42 and follow for 5.6km. Turn right into Tuchenkoi Rd to continue on Tourist Drive 42 and follow for 4.6km to the end and turn left onto Mary Valley Rd. Follow Mary Valley Rd for 4.5km and turn right into Brooloo Rd, again following the brown sign for Tourist Drive 42 and Lake Borumba. After 2.2km you will reach another turn to follow the tourist drive. Do not turn and continue straight ahead on Yabba Creek Rd into Imbil. Follow Yabba Creek Rd for 9.2km and Borumba Deer Park is on the left at the brown sign.
If coming from Gympie, head south and after passing the McDonalds, take the Mary Valley Road exit to follow the Mary Valley Tourist Drive 42. At the overpass, turn right, then follow the directions from Mary Valley Rd below.
From Gympie Visitor Information Centre, turn right to head north on the Bruce Hwy for 1.8km and exit left onto Mary Valley Rd and the Mary Valley Tourist Drive 42. Follow Mary Valley Rd for 24.2km and turn right into Kandanga Imbil Rd at the brown sign for Tourist Drive 42. Follow Kandanga Imbil Rd for 8km to the end, turning right onto Yabba Creek Rd after crossing the bridge over Yabba Creek. Follow Yabba Creek Rd for 9.2km and Borumba Deer Park is on the left at the brown sign.
