Murray River at the Loddon Floodway free camp area on Pental Island. It is on the northern section of the island on the banks of the Murray River.

Loddon Floodway is a free camp area on Pental Island Brown Sign link in The Murray region. It is on the northern section of the island on the banks of the Murray River.

The island is accessed from one of two bridges, either from the southern end of Swan Hill or just east of Lake Boga via Fish Point Rd. Loddon Floodway is on a side road, Caelli Lane, between the bridges.

The camping area is shaded with river gum trees. Care should be taken when looking for a spot to set up your tent or camper to be safe from branches dropping.

Fishing in the Murray River is permitted, but the river is considered a NSW waterway. Even though while fishing from the banks in Victoria, a NSW fishing license is required. You can get a fishing permit online from the NSW Department of Primary Industries Offsite link. A dirt boat ramp is at the camping ground where you can launch small boats.

The campground is free and is not serviced. There are no toilets or bins, so you need to look after this yourself. Keeping the area clean helps to keep free camping areas like this open. There is no water either, other than from the river.

To get there:

Brown sign for Loddon Floodway, 14kmIf coming into Swan Hill from Lake Boga along the Murray Valley Hwy, turn right into Pental Island Rd at the brown sign. If you reach the Welcome to Swan Hill sign, you have gone too far. Follow Pental Island Rd for 14.5km and turn left into Caelli Ln with a brown sign. Access to the camping area is about 1.4km along Caelli Ln.

If coming into Swan Hill from the North along the Murray Valley Hwy, on the approach of the large roundabout, take the first exit veering to the left. After 1.4km, go straight through the roundabout. Continue for 2.4km and turn left into Pental Island Rd at the brown sign. Follow Pental Island Rd for 14.5km and turn left into Caelli Ln with a brown sign. Access to the camping area is about 1.4km along Caelli Ln.

If coming into Swan Hill from the West along Sea Lake-Swan Hill Rd. Sea Lake-Swan Hill Rd becomes McCallum St and goes passed the Swan Hill Showgrounds. Continue for 1km passed the showgrounds, and turn right at the roundabout into Curlewis St (Murray Valley Hwy). Continue for 2.4km and turn left into Pental Island Rd at the brown sign. Follow Pental Island Rd for 14.5km and turn left into Caelli Ln with a brown sign. Access to the camping area is about 1.4km along Caelli Ln.

From Lake Boga, head south-east along Murray Valley Hwy for about 2.7km, and turn left into Fish Point Rd. Continue for 7.9km and you will cross the bridge at the southeastern end of the island. Fish Point Rd continues for another 2.6km, bending to the left and becomes Pental Island Rd. Following Pental Island Rd for another 6.4km and turn right into Caelli Ln with a brown sign. Access to the camping area is about 1.4km along Caelli Ln.
