Bamboo Land is a nursery and parklands landscaped with bamboo and other plants. The gardens span over around 10 acres with walkways through the variety of bamboo displayed.
Started as a hobby in 1990 by Klas Nilsson. Over the years more and more species were added to the collection with over 100 species of clumping bamboo varieties at Bamboo Land. A large range of gingers and heliconias complement the bamboo and provide an addition of colour to the gardens.
Klas’s son Janne Nilsson joined the family business in 2006 and took over a few years later and continues to operate Bamboo Land with his wife Tarissa.
Acquiring an adjacent property is allowing Bamboo Land to double in size, allowing for the continuing expansion of bamboo displays. They are building a new purpose-built retail garden centre and a cafe with a serving area overlooking the Burrum River, expected to be open in 2019.
Bamboo Land is a wonderful place to visit with a calming and relaxed feel. The kids enjoy the numerous paths which are scattered with objects of interest, such as statues, interestingly shaped logs, bridges, and water features.
Picnic tables are around where you can take a picnic lunch to relax and have a feed, or simply walk around the grounds to gather ideas for bamboo features for your own gardens.
There are numerous plants available for purchase, it is a nursery as well as the parklands. Bamboos are obviously well represented, along with gingers, heliconias, grasses, palms, and many more. A visit to Bamboo Land is an experience and to be open for access without any costs is a wonderful gift offered by the owners. Buying a little something is a great way to say thank you.
Bamboo Land gardens can be hired as a wedding venue. The beautiful and calming gardens would have to be a good environment to have the big day.
