Newport Marina is at the northern end of the Redcliffe Peninsula within a residential area.
Newport Marina can accommodate up to 187 vessels with deep water access for powerboats and sailing vessels. There are no bridges restricting vessel height and the marina can accommodate vessels up to 17 metres.
There are security gates to access the berths and the car park is gated for security at night. A small grocery store, bottle shop and restaurant are a short walk away. Services at the
A picnic area with a gas BBQ is available to tenants and visitors to the marina, and showers and toilet facilities. The showers and toilets require a code to access so they are not generally available to walk-in visitors.
More information about the marina and the facilities available to berthing visitors can be found at the Newport Marina website.
The brown sign for Newport Marina doesn’t make a lot of sense to me at the moment, as there really isn’t anything to do there, in particular as a tourist driving by along the tourist route.
There is an application to the council for development changes that are to include retail, food and drink outlets. This would make the location more of a destination for passing tourists from the road. The development is controversial with locals petitioning against it as it involves increasing the building height restrictions.
Unless there is a change to the available interests for walk-in tourists at Newport Marina, it is not a destination to drop in to. Unless of course, you are wanting to berth your vessel, then it is a different consideration. At this time, nearby Scarborough Marina is a better location to visit as a tourist with parks, playgrounds, take-aways, and public accessible toilets. Unfortunately, Scarborough Marina doesn’t have a brown sign, however, it is along the Moreton Bay Tourist Drive.
