If you are visiting Shorncliffe and your fishing gear is handy, you might want to try a spot of fishing at Baxter’s Jetty. Built to replace the original dilapidated Baxter’s Jetty, the jetty today dates back to 1920 and is still a popular spot for both the local and visiting fisherman.
The jetty is named after a local fisherman John Baxter who supplied Shorncliffe and surrounds with his oysters in a bygone era and ran Baxter’s Oyster Saloon. John Baxter drowned at the original jetty in 1897, then called Corporation Jetty. Corporation Jetty was built in the 1880s and became commonly known as Baxter’s Jetty after Baxter drowned.

If you are looking for a beautiful way to spend a few hours or longer then Baxter’s Jetty is definitely in the perfect area. Fish and chips are available nearby and picnics or simply relaxation can be enjoyed at nearby Frank Doyle Park or along the bank of Cabbage Tree Creek.
Strolling south of Baxter’s jetty along the bank of Cabbage Tree Creek you can enjoy swimming, exploring the shore, and trees along the bank. Pelicans and other water birds populate this the area making it a great spot for bird and photography enthusiasts.

Walking North of Baxter’s Jetty you can make your way around by the shore eventually to Moora Park and Shorncliffe Pier
in Bramble Bay. This walk seems popular for all ages and also for those with dogs.
Walking on the waterline north of Baxter’s Jetty is an alternative view under the cliff face of the point of Shorncliffe. Climbing and exploring the shoreline is fun for everyone. The cliffs cast a shadow in the afternoon, nice on hot summer days but can be a little cool in the chilly months.

If fishing from the jetty isn’t your thing, a boat ramp is near Baxters Jetty to launch your watercraft into Cabbage Tree Creek.
