The Big Bogan is the creation of Reverend Graham McLeod from Nyngan’s St Mark’s Anglican Church. Located on Pangee Street next to the railway lines. In 2022, the dog Rusty was added.
Built in 2015, the Big Bogan stands just shy of 6 metres (5.96 metres). He stands proud in his thongs and Southern Cross tattoo on his left shoulder, sporting a mullet hairstyle and goatee beard. With a thumbs up, he is holding his catch and fishing rod. The esky beside him isn’t big enough to hold the fish – perhaps it is for the tinnies to stay cold.
Bogan is a name found a number of times in the township of Nyngan, the name of the shire Nyngan is within. Bogan Coffee Shop is next to the Big Bogan, and Bogan Shire Medical Centre near it. Bogan Street is a couple of streets over, and the Bogan River runs on the western edge of Nyngan.
