Commissioned to celebrate the new estate of Lyons, which was established in 2004. The giant sea turtle was created by Techy Masero with assistance from Larrakia Nation artists. It measures 4 metres by 1.5 metres.
The artwork is titled Rock Waterhole and Sea Turtle, but locals refer to it simple as Colin. I haven’t been able to find the background of the name Colin for the Big Turtle. Google Maps has apparently had the turtle’s name as others in the past, including Frank, Malcolm, and Pete. You will always be able to find it here as Big Turtle.
