The Meat Ant Park is named after Augathella’s football team, the Augathella Meat Ants. The park has landscaped gardens, picnic tables, BBQ and a playground, making it a great spot for a stop along the Landsborough Hwy between Charleville and Barcaldine.
Plans were made to build a big meat ant as a tourist attraction in 2003, to describe Augathella as the home for the meat ant. It wasn’t until 2011 when the 7.5 metre long meat ant was made and installed in the park.

, the meat ant is constructed from copper and steel. Measurements from meat ants were used and scaled out to 300:1 to make the sculpture, resulting in a giant ant 1 million times the size of an actual ant. It is installed in the park on a wooden pole, lookout down to the ground.
