The Big Crocodile is a concrete statue of a saltwater crocodile, around 18 to 20 metres long and 3 metres high. It was created by Andrew Hickson and built with the help of students from Halls Creek TAFE. Using computers to plot the shape, in 1987 this was cutting edge technology.
A plaque in front of The Big Crocodile reads:
A Lions Club of Wyndham Community Project
THE CROCODILE
Constructed by Andrew Hickson with assistance from T.A.F.E. and Westrek.
The project was possible by generous donations from Wyndham Centenary Committee, Tropical Road Construction, Argyle Diamond Mines P/L, Department for the Arts, The R & I Bank of W.A., Lions Club of Wyndham, The Ready Mix Group, Cockburn Cement.
The plaque was unveiled by The Hon. Ernie Bridge M.L.A. Minister for the Northwest, on 21st May 1988.
