The Big Lobster, also known as Larry, is at a food stop at Rosetown (near Kingston) in South Australia. Built in 1979, “Larry” is one of the early big things in Australia, officially opened by the Premier of South Australia on 15th December 1979.
The construction of The Big Lobster is an internal steel frame and coated with layers of styrofoam and fibreglass, taking six months to build. Weighing 4 tonnes, it stands 17 metres tall, 15.2 metres long, and 13.7 metres wide. It was built by Paul Kelly, who also designed the Big Scotsman.
