Situated outside the Ningaloo Visitor Centre, representing the prawning history of the Exmouth town. The Big Prawn, at 4 metres tall, was created by Brian Paskins, who also created the nearby Big Whale Shark.
Late in 2025, the prawn went missing, leaving only the pole it was sitting on. I couldn’t find an official statement, but it was apparently removed ready for the cyclone season.
When someone mentions The Big Prawn, most think of The Big Prawn in Ballina. At least to those who live on the eastern coast of Australia. At 16 metres, it is certainly the bigger Big Prawn. It is, however, located at Bunnings and lost its original tourist intent, and it is argued Exmouth’s prawn is more realistic.
Exmouth’s Big Prawn is featured on the $1 coin, one of ten in the Aussie Big Things 2 Collection in 2025. If nothing else, this confirms its place in Australia’s big things.
