Standing around 8 metres tall, the bin in Kalgoorlie is regarded as the world’s tallest. Ironically too tall for the average person to throw their rubbish into, the bin was erected in 1980 by the Keep Kalgoorlie Klean Kommittee, as a reminder to locals not to litter.
Some have claimed to successfully depositing rubbish into the elongated bin, investing the time and commitment for several attempts. Further irony is there are no rubbish bins of normal height around it. More irony is in Google Street View rubbish can be seen under one of the trees near it.
The World’s Tallest Bin may not be a load of rubbish, but it is filled with irony.
