Niecon Plaza was a landmark shopping centre in the heart of Broadbeach. As of 2025, it is in a state of transition with demolition commenced to make way for redevelopment.
First opened in 1990, it featured 7,000 square metres of retail space. It was a social and commercial hub, with alfresco dining, boutique shops, live entertainment, and a distinctive architectural style that made it stand out in Broadbeach.
The demolition of Neicon Plaza marks the end of an era, and sets way for the development of two new towers already under construction (late 2025). The new development is primarily for residential purposes. There will be a retail arcade but it won’t be the retail icon that Niecon Plaza was when it first appeared more than 30 years prior.
This will no doubt become an archived brown sign, no longer somewhere to go and the brown sign no longer seen on the streets.
If you are standing in front of what was the Niecon Plaza, you will have your back to The Oasis Shopping Precinct
