Hemingway’s Brewery FNQ is an independent craft brewery at the marina in Port Douglas. It is the first of their brewpubs, with another located in Cairns.
If you haven’t heard of what a brewpub is, it is a restaurant or eatery selling beer they have brewed on the premises. Artisan or craft beer is typically what you will find.
There is no brewery tour, the restaurant, craft beers, and the marina vista where Hemingway’s is located are the features of the place. Walking in from the carpark through Port Douglas Marina’s shopping centre, you can see the beer vats through the windows.
There is a core range of beers you will find there with a set of limited release beers to complement them. The limited release beers are easily recognised with more colourful labels than the basic designs of the core range cans.
We took away a selection of beers. The Prospector, a Bohemian style pilsner, 7th Heaven tropical ale, and Coral Cay IPA. From the limited range we selected Three Falls NEIPA and Cloud Nine White Ale.
The limited range seems to be available for quite a while, at least some of them are. We dropped by in 2021 and a year later the limited release beers we bought to take with us are still for sale. However, one we had at the table, Tropic Crush Session Ale, is now shown on their website under the archives.
We enjoyed all the beers we tried and if we were in the area longer, we’d probably sample a few more. We were headed for Mossman to stay so we only had the one beer there. The seating area near the bar looks over the marina.
Next to the brewery is Choo Choos, a cafe with a railway line which runs along the side of the marina with a turntable at the end. The historic Bally Hooley train railway runs from the marina to St. Crispins Station. We were too late to see the trains running, with the last leaving the marina at 2pm and returning 3pm.
