The F-111 Crash Memorial near Tenterfield is a tribute to two Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) airmen who tragically lost their lives during a training flight on 2 April 1987. Located just 3.5 km east of Tenterfield along Mount Lindesay Road, the site marks the exact location where the aircraft, tail number F-111C A8-128, crashed into a paddock, narrowly missing nearby homes.
There is no information at the memorial. The memorial is made of stones placed together with concrete and three stones. A center stone with has simple information of the event, and either side is “in memory of” with the names of the pilots, F.O. Bill Pike, and Flt. Lt. Mark Fallon. The center stone has the following words:
Site of Crash of F111-C A8-128
2nd April 1987
They died in the service of their country.
The memorial is located almost directly west of the Heritage Aviation Museum in Evans Head, with blue signs for F-111 Museum. It isn’t nearby, around 2.5 hours and 185km by road via Casino and Woodburn.
