The Pinnacle is an outstretch of rock into the caldera of the ancient Tweed Volcano in the Border Ranges National Park 
Jutting out from the edge of the caldera, The Pinnacle provides what has to be the best views from the Border Ranges. Sitting around 1,000 metres above the Tweed Valley, the views are out across the caldera to Wollumbin (Mt Warning) and beyond, as well as back towards the edge of the caldera.
To get to the lookout, a short grade 2 walk is required from the road, under 1km return walk. The walk is easy but it is uphill for much of it until you reach the edge of the caldera.
The walk goes through lush rainforest before it starts to open up as the edge of the caldera is approached. The views from the lookout is the main feature but there are things to look at on the way of the short walk.
One of my sons is fascinated by fungus, pointing them out on many of the walks we do. We found some small bright orange fungi growing on a fallen branch that paused our walk for a little while.
If you are only at the Border Ranges National Park for the day, you may want to pick a few of the spots to go as there is too much to see properly in one day. Make sure The Pinnacle makes the list, it has the best views that can’t be missed.
