Governors Chair Lookout is perched at the eastern side of the Great Dividing Range looking over the Fassifern Valley.
Across the valley, various mountain peaks can be seen. Mt Walker, Mt Edwards, Mt French
, Mt Greville, Mt Alford, Mt Moon, Mt Maroon, and Mt Toowoona are all visible on the horizon. Lake Moogerah can be seen between the mountains.
Located in the Spicers Gap
section of the Main Range National Park, Governors Chair Lookout is a 150m walking trail. The trail being short makes it fairly easy but it is uphill with steps most of the way.
Governors Chair is a large rock on the edge of the cliff face. The walk leads directly to the cliff, so care is needed especially if you have children with you. There are no safety barriers stopping you from reaching the edge.
Governors Chair was originally known as Governor’s Rock, named after Governor-General Sir Charles Fitzroy in 1854. Governor Sir George Bowen, Queensland’s first governor, also regularly visited the spot. It is said he journeyed all the way from Brisbane Town to feast his eyes on the ‘incomparable panorama’.
