Murray Scrub Lookout is within Toonumbar National Park and looks over the Murray Scrub subtropical rainforest. The lookout is along Toonumbar Rainforest Drive, a rough dirt road that follows along the mountain range. Murray Scrub, part of the Gondwana Rainforests, is world heritage-listed containing diverse threatened plants and animals.
A walking track, Murray Scrub Walk 
, leads into the forest seen from the lookout, taking you through fig trees, Red Cedars, and Bangalow Palms.
The horizon view takes in Haystack Mountain, Dome Mountain, and Glassy Mountain. Dome Mountain and Glassy Mountain are the eroded remains from the Focal Peak Shield Volcano.
The lookout has a wooden platform providing unobscured views with an informational sign detailing what can be seen in the view.
There is little room for parking of any vehicles. Park off to the side of the track and leave as much space for other vehicles to get passed as possible. Sherwood Lookout has more room and a picnic table. It is a few kilometres from Murray Scrub Lookout so if you want a longer stop for a break, head to Sherwood Lookout.
