Eachum Historical Museum Millaa Millaa showcases pre-loved possessions from times gone by. Unfortunately, they are not open too often so mostly it is viewing through the windows from outside.
It is located next to a park, Millaa Millaa Lions Park, with decent facilities to stop for a picnic lunch or break. There is a shelter with free BBQ and tables, toilets, exercise equipment, and a playground. There are several unsheltered picnic tables in addition to the sheltered area.
There are some historical information and points of interest in and near the park. A statue of Christie Palmerston and Pompo stand in the park. Christie Palmerston found and made a feasible track through the 90 kilometres of rainforest between Herberton and Innisfail. The Palmerston Highway follows closely to the original track, named after Christie Palmerston. Pompo was a close companion of Palmerston for five years, a teenage Aboriginal boy. Palmerston was known for his work with Aboriginal people from the rainforest, the Mamu people.
Behind the museum are four pieces of a Giant Kauri Pine Tree, which crashed to the ground in 2003. Its root system no longer able to support its own weight. Four large pieces were transported to Millaa Millaa to keep for display. It is estimated via carbon dating to be 870 years old, making it a Kauri Pine Seedling in the year 1137.
