Jalunbu Park is an open space park in Port Douglas at the northern end of Four Mile Beach 
. It sits between the beach and the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club.
The park is simple with some picnic tables, seating, and a few shady trees. There is parking available around the perimeter of the park, mainly along Mowbray Road and Garrick Street.
A tree in the centre of the park (the feature photo) has a twisted looking trunk giving it an interesting character. It is a feature we first noticed with a lot of the trees along the shorefront at Palm Cove.
The Aboriginal meaning of Jalunbu is something along the lines of On The Beach that is shown on the brown sign. It appears to be derived from two words, Jalun meaning Sea and Bubu meaning Land.
Visiting Tropical North Queensland, we wandered around the park and were fascinated with the discovery of green tree ants, the first we had seen. I have seen them before on various shows and looked up to see if I could find a nest, assuming they were what I thought they were.
We found the nest in the tree, fresh leaves pulled in to make a balloon-shaped nest. We continually looked for the nests for the rest of our visit to Tropical North Queensland. Green tree ants, also known as Weaver Ants 
, continually replace the nests with fresher leaves as the nest leaves die or are damaged in storms.
