The state border tourist area at Wallangarra is on the border of Queensland and New South Wales with a large billboard in the shape of a train used to promote surrounding areas.
A white fence sits along the border with a sign showing the border. The train billboard sits on the New South Wales side of the fence and has a ramp behind it peak through between the steam engine and coal tender to take photos.
The train outline of the billboard gets its significance due to the town of Wallangarra in Queensland (Jennings on the New South Wales side) is where the two state’s railway lines joined for the first time, becoming the railway to travel between Sydney and Brisbane.
There isn’t a lot of information available at this spot, although, it is good for taking a picture of being on the border. You can get all the history of Wallangarra and the railway line at the Wallangarra Historic Railway Museum 
. The museum is only 150 metres away and it has the border crossing over the platform.
The Sydney to Brisbane railway line was replaced in the 1930s with the Kyogle line extended, crossing through the Richmond Gap with the Border Loop track. Unlike the railway passing through Wallangarra, the new line used a single gauge railway, removing the need to change trains at the border.
