Baroon Pocket Dam is near Montville, built on Obi Obi Creek, and forming Lake Baroon 
. The ungated dam was completed in 1989 and is used for potable water supply. A plaque shows it was officially opened in July 1989.
The main inflows are from Bridge Creek and Obi Obi Creek, and the dam spillway flows into Obi Obi Creek through the Obi Obi Gorge. Obi Obi Gorge can be accessed by a walk from the Kondalilla National Park southern entrance 500m from Baroon Pocket Dam.
The dam wall can’t be accessed, fenced off at the spillway. The water was flowing over the spillway, not in a rush but we were told at the information centre in Montville it is rare for the dam to be full.
A bushwalking trail leads down to near the end of the spillway. The walk is easy and not too far, about 300m return. There isn’t too much that can be seen through which is a little disappointing. If the viewing point was a little further down then the waterfall at the end would be more viewable. The walk is pleasant though and has quite a few grasstrees on the way.
There is not much there for facilities. There is a shelter with a couple of picnic tables and not much else. The Lake Baroon (northern area) is 600m around the corner and has more facilities available, including BBQs and toilets. It is better to go there and have a walk to the dam wall or have a quick stop at the wall on the way in or out.
