If you are in the area around Boonoo Boonoo National Park and Bald Rock National Park, and have a four wheel drive, Basket Swamp is a location to include in your itinerary. Most of the tracks are easy to drive, even with little or no experience offroad. Although, Basket Swamp Falls may require some experience if it is wet or you want to explore a little further than the main area for Basket Swamp Falls.
Ideal for 4WD adventurers. Visit Basket Swamp Falls, Timbarra Trig Lookout, and the sacred Woollool Woolloolni Aboriginal Place.
Basket Swamp Falls
Basket Swamp Falls
starts with some rock pools at the top of the falls. To reach this part can require a bit of offroad experience but it isn’t terribly difficult. As mentioned before, if it has been raining it can require some experience because the track has some rutted-out muddy sections you could get stuck in. The weather was dry, and we were able to get through without any drama or concerns.

Woollool Woolloolni Aboriginal Place
The second location we visited is the sacred Woolool Wooloolni Aboriginal Place
, also known as Wellington Rock. The parking area was simple but it had a toilet and a shelter area with a fireplace. On the other side of the shelter is the start of the track that leads into the gully between us and the rock formations ahead.

The path isn’t as clearly marked as the other national parks but we were able to find our way easily enough. Once we reached the rock formations, it started to become harder to know where we should be going. We had a look around to find how we could continue the climb but it didn’t look safe to continue further and without a clear path marked out, decided to return. I suspected the views I was anticipating was myself getting confused of views from another place while researching the area.
While we didn’t see the views we were expecting, we enjoyed visiting Woollool Woolloolni Aboriginal Place.
Timbarra Trig Lookout
Timbarra Trig Lookout is one of the easiest spots to reach in Basket Swamp National Park. The parking area is a little uneven but is otherwise easy to get to. Once parked, a walk is needed to reach the lookout. The path wasn’t easy to spot with yellow flowering bushes over-growing across it. The path isn’t too long but climbs immediately.
Towards the top requires a bit of rock scrambling. Once up there, you will find two spots with views, and I realised this is possibly the views I was expecting from Woollool Woolloolni Aboriginal Place. Seeing the views from Timbarra Trig Lookout was a relief in sorts, and at this point on our trip, the views here brought Basket Swamp National Park as our favourite, ahead of Boonoo Boonoo National Park. Although, we hadn’t yet been to Bald Rock National Park, which because our first pick (with Basket Swamp a close second).

To reach the second spot, there is some crossing of boulders with long drops underneath them. It isn’t difficult, but if you are unsure with your balance and sure-footedness, the first part gives you similar views, just in a different direction.
