Bullocky Rest is a day use area on Lake Samsonvale, one of Brisbane’s water supply dams, also known as North Pine Dam. There is plenty of space, and plenty of facilities to go with it. When you first enter there are immediately sheltered and unsheltered tables and BBQs.
Bullocky Rest is a popular place for large gatherings and parties. The number of BBQs and tables you can normally still find somewhere on even the busiest days. SEQ Water’s PDF guide, the map indicates 19 BBQs, 20 sheltered tables, and many more uncovered tables.

There are two playgrounds at Bullocky Rest to help keep the kids amused, and large open grassed areas to run around or play games on, a game of soccer or throwing around a Frisbee.
If fishing is your passion, fishing is allowed in Lake Samsonvale only at designated areas, and Bullocky Rest is one of those. Bullocky Rest is a stocked fishing spot, so a SIPS permit is required to fish there. The SIPS fees go towards the costs of stocking fingerling fish, including Australian Bass, Yellow Belly, Mary River Cod, Snub Nose Gar and Saratoga.
A walking trail from Bullocky Rest takes you to Forgan Cove, a 4.2km walk one way from the walk entry.
Unfortunately, swimming is not allowed, even when the lake looks so inviting on a hot day. And generally, neither is the use of any watercraft unless you have a permit. Paddlecraft can be launched at Forgan Cove, but they still cannot be paddled to Bullockys Rest as it is in a prohibited zone for any watercraft.
