On the banks of Barambah Creek, Fick’s Crossing is a nice spot to stop for a break or stay for a while. Drive through the Allan “Snow” Huston Memorial Park
, which is adjoining to Fick’s Crossing, to park near the creek. The creek can easily be walked to from anywhere in the memorial park.
I haven’t been able to find much information about Fick’s Crossing. I assumed it is named where a crossing was made over the Barambah Creek. Talking to a couple of other people there, they had the same assumptions but didn’t know for sure. I found an article mentioning of Wondai Shire Council and contributions for the construction of a bridge over Fick’s crossing
from1917 (towards the bottom of the left column).
At one end the creek is shallow and provides easy access to put in a kayak, paddle board, or go in for a swim. Upstream a pier goes out into the creek, a couple of people were fishing from it while I was there.
The brown sign on the approach to Ficks Crossing Road ‘Fick’s Crossing Camp Access’ suggests camping is allowed, but there is no information that specifically states this. A water trails booklet from Wide Bay Burnett Regional Organisation of Councils lists Ficks Crossing as a camping location.

Ficks Crossing was named after my Great Gran-mother who was the Mid Wife in the area around 100 years ago . Having about 12 children of her own , my gran mother was one of the youngest , her name was Freda I think , was always Nana to me .
My Gran Father Alex Williamson was born 1895 at Murgon .
