Lake Baroon is between Maleny and Montville on the Blackall Range. The lake is created from the Baroon Pocket Dam 
on the Obi Obi Creek, as a water supply for the Sunshine Coast area.
This is the northern recreational area for Lake Baroon and accessed from Montville. Another recreational area is on the southern end of the lake accessed from Maleny.
The northern recreational area has BBQs and picnic tables scattered around, a nice place to have a picnic lunch with the family with a view over the lake. There are lots of grassed areas, but most of it is on sloped hills down to the lake’s shore. A playground will help keep the kids entertained while sausages are cooking on the BBQ.
Fishing is allowed from a boat, paddle craft, and from the shore in the recreation area. Lake Baroon is a stocked impoundment, so a SIPS permit (Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme 
) is required. The permit fees go towards keeping impoundment areas stocked, as the fish quite often won’t breed in these areas.
Watercraft can be used, but motorised boats must be electric. There is a designated launch point along Narrows Rd before reaching the parking area. There isn’t much in the way of parking if you have a trailer, so be aware that parking could be difficult if you have one.
Swimming is not allowed at the northern area, so you will need to go to the southern area of Lake Baroon if you want to swim in the designated area.
The lake flows out through Obi Obi Gorge. For those that like to go for a walk, the gorge can be accessed from a walking trail in the Kondalilla National Park, the southern entrance only 400m away.
The spillway of the dam wall for Baroon Pocket Dam is a 600m walk from the northern recreation area. From there, there is a short walk to view the end of the spillway.
