Tooloom Falls is a bush free camp on the outskirts of Urbenville, on the banks of Tooloom Creek. There are no facilities with the exception of a toilet.
Campsites are not marked, so find a spot that suits you and set up. Being quite hot, we picked a spot with some shade not too far from the falls. It ended up being the main thoroughfare for heading down to the falls, other than a few people going by it was a good place to camp.
Swimming can be done at either above the falls or below them. Below the falls was popular, seemingly someone swimming there at most times. We didn’t see any swimmers above the falls while we were there.
The water was hardly flowing while we were there, which may be why no one was swimming above the falls. Below the falls, the water was too warm to enjoy other than freshen up a little. And of course, it meant the falls were not as spectacular as we were hoping to see them.
A causeway used to cross the river above the falls. This cannot be driven over anymore, however, it is an easy way across to the other side of the falls for different views of the falls and the waterhole below.
While the water was not flowing as we would have liked, it was still a beautiful place to go to. Had the waterhole been cooler we would have stayed an additional night, however, we only stayed for the one night and continued on our trip.
There are no walks at the falls, however, you can walk downstream from the falls for a while along the creek. We were also told by locals that you can cross over the top of the falls and then walk downstream along the road for about 1 or 2 kilometres to reach an entrance to smaller falls and waterhole. We didn’t explore this so if you do, let us know what you find.
If you want more walks while staying at Tooloom Falls, we also ventured to Tooloom Lookout in Tooloom National Park and to Bean Creek Falls where we were able to stretch the legs a little.
