Moonpar Forest drive is a 75km scenic loop drive from Dorrigo in New South Wales. It’s a great day out and an ideal way to explore the walks, riverside picnic spots, and sights of Nymboi-Binderay and Cascade national parks, and Dangar Falls near the end of the drive.
There is a brown sign for Moonpar Forest Drive starting at Moonpar Road off Tyringham Road, around 14 to 15 kilometres from Dorrigo. However, the drive is mapped by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service as being a loop drive starting and finishing at Dorrigo, so this drive is mapped the same way.
Starting from Dorrigo, head west out of town on the Waterfall Way, then turn right into Tyringham Road towards Tyringham and Grafton. Follow Tyringham Road for 14.3 kilometres to reach Moonpar Road, with a brown sign for Moonpar Forest Drive and Nymboi-Binderay National Park.
Follow Moonpar Road for around 6.8km to reach Mills Road.
Optionally head to Norman Jolly Picnic Area and the Coachwood Loop walking track, around 4.5km from the Moonpar Road and Mills Road intersection. Then return back to the intersection.
Enter Mills Road and follow for around 8.2 kilometres to reach the turnoff for Platypus Flat campground. There may be a right had turn around 3.7 kilometres along, and another at 7 kilometres, then crossing the Nymboida River and becoming Cedar Road before reaching the campground.
From the turnoff for Platypus Flat campground, continue on Cedar Road for 1 kilometre and turn right to continue. Follow for another 4.7 kilometres and turn right.
Follow for around 9 kilometres to the Box Ridge walking track, from which you can access the Mobong Walking track, in the Cascade National Park.
Continue for a short way before turning right into Briggsvale Road. 250 metres on the left is the Cascade Environmental Education Centre, open for use by schools only. Nearby are the remains of the Cascade Historic Mill and Cascade Railway Station.
From the education centre, continue on Briggsvale Road for 2.3 kilometers. On the right is the remains of the Briggsvale Railway Station. Continue on Briggsvale Road for 4.5 kilometres to reach Megan, then turn right to head towards Dorrigo.
Follow Coramba Road for 1.3 kilometres, and optionally turn right into Rodgers Road to see the remains of Megan Railway Station (around 250 metres along, then 150 metres towards the right).
From the Rodgers Road intersection, continue on Coramba Road for approximately 10.8 kilometres to reach Dangar Falls.
From Dangar Falls, continue on Coramba Road for 2 kilometres to return to Dorrigo, completing the loop of the Moonpar Forest Drive.
