Torrington is a small village on the Mole Tableland in northern New South Wales within Tenterfield Shire. The village is quiet and not a lot happening while we were there. There is a small information shelter in a small, grassed area, which is the location of this destination.
The Torrington State Conservation Area
is on the edge of Torrington, where you can find Thunderbolt’s Lookout and Mystery Face rock formation.
Gold and tin mining drove Torrington’s development after a rich tin lode was found in the 1880s. By the 1920s the district supported many miners, batteries and associated town infrastructure, leaving behind historic mine sites, the Ottery Arsenic Mine
being a notable example.
