The accredited Rathdowney Visitor Information Centre is on the Mt Lindesay Highway in Rathdowney where you can find information including maps and brochures, and ask knowledgeable locals for information.
In front of the main building is an information hut with brochures and maps if you come by when the centre is closed.
The tourist information centre doubles as a historical museum. While you can see a bit of it out of normal hours, you will see much more exploring the collections and displays during opening hours.
The historical buildings include a prison hut used by prisoners at Palen Creek Low Security Farm, the Old Shop which was moved from its nearby original location to where it is by a team of draft horses, a Tramway building and a Barn.
Across the road is a picnic area with flushing toilets and picnic tables. On the other side of the picnic area is the general store.
