The Fig Tree Walk is 6.5km south of Kenilworth along the Maleny Kenilworth Rd. The walk is short and easy, a 1.1km circuit starting from a parking area on the opposite side of Little Yabba Creek.
The riverine rainforest was once extensive along the water courses in this area. The walk is at the junction of Little Yabba Creek, which flows from the Charlie Moreland Camping Area
nearby, and Mary River.

The walk has some slopes, but the path is either bitumen or boardwalk the whole way. It is a grade 1 walking track, making it suitable for wheelchairs.
As the name of the walk suggests, a highlight of the walk is the Moreton Bay Figs. The older figs are magnificent to see. The boardwalk leads directly up to the base of one of them, inviting photos standing in the large buttress root base these trees have.
Another tree to pay attention to are the Giant Stinging Trees. The name of the walk could just have easily been called Giant Stinging Tree Walk because there are plenty of them. The walking trails in Bunya Mountains
had Giant Stinging Trees too, but not as plentiful here.
The stinging tree’s leaves have fine silica tipped stinging hairs, and when touched cause a pain that can last for days or months. Dead leaves can also sting. Enclosed footwear is strongly recommended for this walk, and make sure children understand they are not to touch leaves.
Back at the parking area, there are basic facilities, with picnic tables and bins. A path leads under the bridge of Maleny Kenilworth Rd to Little Yabba Creek Park, where there are long-drop toilets, more tables, and more parking space. The parking space for Fig Tree Walk is fairly small, so on busy days, you may need to park at Little Yabba Creek Park.
Little Yabba Creek Park is a rest stop allowing camping for 1 night. We visited during a long weekend, and there wasn’t too much space remaining but wasn’t too bad. The camping isn’t as good as Charlie Moreland Camping Area
(with flushing toilets), but is convenient and free if you need somewhere to stay overnight while travelling through.
