Mushroom Rock is at the coastal part of the Kalbarri National Park in Western Australia. This section of the coastline is spectacularly adorned by red-streaked sandstone cliffs, coloured by the rich iron content in the stone.
One of several destinations along a short strip of the coastline, Mushroom Rock is connected to Rainbow Valley with a walking trail. The trail leads from the carpark down into a small gorge and the junction of the loop track.
The first 60 metres is a wide path of compacted gravel and is suitable for a wheelchair. The track then becomes more difficult with steep sections, steps in places, and uneven surfaces.
The walk is 1.5km and takes about 2 hours. The loop section is recommended to be done in a counter-clockwise direction, taking you to the coast first.
Reaching the coast, you can see Red Bluff, a high point along the red sandstone cliffs. The trail then leads in the opposite direction towards Rainbow Valley and presentation of beautiful rock formations in the sandstone.
A highlight feature is a large balancing flat rock platform sitting on top of the cliff flats.
