Island Rock is a solitary ‘sea stack’ along the Kalbarri National Park Coastal Cliffs . It was once part of the shoreline, however, after erosion from the seas, wind and rain, the layers of sandstone rock has become separated.
Island Rock, one of many brown sign destinations to see along the coast, is near the similar Natural Bridge, except it no longer has a connecting piece to keep it part of the shoreline.
The Bigurda Trail is an 8km walk from Natural Bridge up to Eagle Gorge. There are separate parking areas for Natural Bridge and Island Rock, however, as an alternative you can walk between them for a 1.6km return walk.
To get there:
From Kalbarri township, head south along Grey St which starts heading west. It bends to the left and becomes Red Bluff Rd. From the bend, follow for 10.5km and turn right at the brown sign for Island Rock (and Grandstand and Natural Bridge). Follow for 3.4km and turn right at another brown sign and follow 200m to the end to reach the parking area for Island Rock.
