The Rail Trail in Esk is along the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, a 161km shared use trail on an abandoned rail corridor from Ipswich through to Yarraman.
From Esk the trail goes north 19km to Toogoolawah through farmland on an undulating coarse gravel and dirt trail surface. Past train stations in the section are Esk train station, Ottaba trail station, and Toogoolawah trail station.
Heading to the south the trail goes 35km to Lowood, an easy graded gravel and dirt trail surface passing through farmland and bushland. Past trail stations through to Lowood include Mount Hallen, Cooragook, Coominya, Clarendon, and Lowood train station.
To make this section shorter, Coominya train station reduces the distance to around 24km from Esk, and about 12km between Coominya and Lowood.
Esk Railway Station building is on the south end of town off the Esk Hampton Road. There are no facilities at the station, but there is a park immediately to the north with a playground, picnic tables, toilets, BBQs, and water bubblers.
To get there:
Coming into Esk from the west from Hampton along Esk Hampton Rd, turn left into Heap St about 1.4km from entering Esk. The Esk railway station of the rail trail is 50m on the left, or 100m to the park north of the station, also on the left.
Coming into Esk from the south from Lake Wivenhoe along Brisbane Valley Hwy, turn left into Hampton Esk Rd about 1km from entering Esk with the brown sign for Brisbane Valley Rail Trail. After 100m turn right into Heap St with another brown sign, then the Esk railway station of the rail trail is 50m on the left, or 100m to the park north of the station, also on the left.
