The foreshore of Hervey Bay is scattered with parks and beach access, Quota Park in Urangan is one of the great spots to enjoy some of the seaside town’s best attributes.
Quota Park is along the Esplanade Trail, a 14km walking and cycling trail following the shoreline of Hervey Bay from Dayman Park in Urangan to Black Stump Park in Point Vernon.
A rock wall jetty juts out into water with good views to Urangan Pier and west towards Torquay. It was only a short while before we watched a kangaroo come swimming back onto the beach from the pier.

We had earlier seen the injured kangaroo hopping down Elizabeth Street, about 400m back towards Urangan Pier. It kept jumping when it reached the break wall and began swimming out to sea.
Paddle boarders were told of the kangaroo and padded out to intercept it and turn it around. We heard later it continued hopping around the streets, eventually being taken to a vet. A lucky kangaroo.
Either side of the jetty is a bathing reserve and are dog friendly. To right requires pets must be on a lead. To the left, the off-leash dog friendly beach lets the furry members of your family enjoy the sand and water with you. The park has a water tap with an integrated dog bowl for thirsty puppies.

Hervey Bay is mostly protected by Fraser Island, so the water is usually calm. Calm water at the beach is great for young families and those who don’t like the surf. It’s good for paddle boarders and random kangaroos too.
Back at the park, there are toilets available near to where the jetty is. There is a shelter with picnic tables and a free BBQ. Another smaller shelter also has a free BBQ. There is additional seating around a tree and some bench seats facing out to the bay.
We discovered a nest in one of the trees with a couple of rainbow lorikeets with one of them popping in and out of the hollow.
