The Nullarbor Links Golf Course is an 18 hole course spread over 1,365 kilometres with one hole in each participating town or roadhouse along the Eyre Highway. Some holes are set up specifically for the course, others are a nominated hole at an established golf course.
Hole 13 of the Nullarbor Links Golf Course (or hole 6 in reverse) is at Fraser Range sheep station. It is a short 141m Par 3 hole through scrub. The tee is found about 700m south of the station with the hole crossing over the road near the tee. The station is off the highway also, so Hole 13 is around 2 and a half kilometres off Eyre Highway.
The hole sits in a flat area surrounded by rolling hills, making it one of the most scenic holes on the Nullarbour Links Golf Course.
Fraser Range Station was the first station founded in the Nullarbor Plains, first settled in 1872. Sheep were moved around to various open grass flats and returned to the station homestead in the Fraser Range each year for shearing. The Australian saying “Living off a sheep’s back” is where the name of this hole comes from.
The Tee is devoted to John and Heather Campbell, pastoralists in the Fraser Range for 11 years. John died in 2000 from a light aircraft accident while mustering sheep south of the homestead.
