Applewood Distillery in Gumeracha, South Australia, is a gin distillery using native Australian botanical ingredients in addition to traditional Juniper.
The distillery has created a market for low grade Australian native botanicals. ‘A’ grade botanicals might make it onto plates in fine dining restaurants but there isn’t a demand for the rest of the produce.
Started in 2015 at Unico Zelo winery, the tasting bar has been set up in an old industrial cold store built in the early 1920s.
The menu starts with a tasting experience, providing a selction of drinks, including their non-gin products such as the Carter’s original coffee liqueur and the Unico Cello.
Tours are available twice daily. The tour takes you through the production space and learning the basic of distilling gin. You get to interact with the native botanicals that are the signature difference for Applewood.
Applewood’s handcrafted gin is uniquely Australian. You could say it captures the Australian Spirit.
