Black Stump Park is on Point Vernon in Hervey Bay, near to one of the best sunset spots in the area.
Less than 200m from Gataker’s Bay where there is a boat ramp, it is the spot to come to if you want facilities while family is boating or after coming back from boating.
The name is from the blackened stump at the playground, with a plaque from 2005 for the opening of “This Side of the Black Stump” Recreation Facility.

The playground was part way through renovations with some equipment removed due to safety concerns and new equipment to come the following year in 2021. The pathways were to have roadway markings and signage for children bicycle riders as well.

There are some picnic tables, BBQs, and flushing toilets. A great spot for land dwellers while others are out fishing or otherwise.

It was late in the day when I came across Black Stump Park, one of many along the foreshore of Hervey Bay. I discovered how great this part of Point Vernon is for sunsets as you look over the water from the western part of the point.

Further along the Esplanade takes you to the most western point and the choicest of spots for sunset photography, however, there are no facilities there.
