Lake Eacham is one of two crater lakes formed some 12,000 years ago by volcanic activity, offering crystal clear water surrounded by beautiful northern Queensland rainforest. It is a protected area within the Crater Lakes National Park.
As you would expect, the main activities are based around the lake, including swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving, and canoeing and kayaking. Walking is another popular activity, with one of them taking you on a 3.5km walk around the lake.
When you are ready for a break from water activities and bush walking, there are plenty of picnicking options with green grass areas, free BBQs, and sheltered picnic tables.
If you are looking for more than a single day visit, the Lake Eacham Tourist Park & Cabins is a short walk from the lake. Or see a list of accommodation options in Lake Eacham .
