Goomoolahra Picnic Area is a picnic area at the end of Springbrook Rd at Springbrook. It is set beside the Mundora Creek, with some picnic spots right at the creek. Goomoolahra is an Aboriginal word meaning ‘big waterfall’.
There are picnic tables and wood BBQs, although it appeared only one BBQ was functional. Make sure you bring your own wood if you want to use the BBQ, as you can’t collect wood in National Parks.
A path follows the Mundora Creek towards the cliffs, then along the cliffs to look back at Goomoolahra Falls, and outwards The Pinnacle is prominent before the background of the Gold Coast in the distance. On clear days, North and South Stradbroke Islands can be seen, and so can the sandhills of Moreton Island.
From the first lookout point, a short trail continues further on the cliff edge that provides further spectacular views of the mountains and valleys. Wheelchairs cannot access this part.
To get there:
From the Springbrook Mountain Visitor Centre, continue south on Springbrook Rd for 8.3km, with the parking area for Tallanbana Picnic Area on the left.
