Scarness Park is on the Hervey Bay foreshore trail, with all the facilities to enjoy the bay’s beautiful views and beach.
Whether you come here passing through along the trail or especially for some recreational time with friends and family, Scarness Park is a great spot to go.
There are green grass areas to spread out on, as well as picnic tables and seating throughout. The free BBQs allow for cooking up some hot food to go with your picnic lunch or evening meal. A toilet block ensures there is no need to dash home after too many cold drinks in the warm sun.
The beach is right in front with calm water swimming and lazying on the sand. The Scarness Jetty heads out over the water, a spot to wander out onto to look back up and down the beach of Hervey Bay. A playground gives another way for children to keep occupied.
Scarness Park was the centre of Hervey Bay’s social and holiday scene. Trains brought picnickers in from Maryborough, Bundaberg, and Gympie to the entertainment centre of Hervey Bay.
Visitors to Scarness would bath in the sedate waters, picnic, and listen to brass bands. The first cafes of Hervey Bay appeared here, as well as a skating rink, two dance halls, and three picture theatres.
