Pearl Street is the main road in the abandoned town of Cossack. Most of the remaining buildings are in or near Pearl Street.
The Cossack School is the furthest away, about 400m down Perseverance St which intersects with Pearl Street.
The name of the street reflects the town’s pearling industry heritage. A map from the late 1800s names Pearl St so it was named for this reason early on.
Pearl Street runs inland from the waterfront near the Wharf crossing Perseverance St. It is this section where the old bluestone buildings exist, the first being the Customs House & Bond Store.
The Customs House has a great little cafe where we refreshed with coffee, and yummy scones, jam and cream.
To get there:
From the northern end of Roebourne along North West Coastal Hwy (Cleaverville Rd), turn into Point Samson-Roebourne Rd at the brown sign for Cossack. Follow Point Samson-Roebourne Rd for 8.2km and turn right into Cossack Rd at the brown sign. Follow Cossack Rd for 5.2km to reach the Cossack Historic Town. Turn left to enter Pearl Street.
