Dulong Lookout provides a panoramic view across the Sunshine Coast from behind Nambour. Dulong is an aboriginal word meaning mud or wet clay.
Located between Nambour and Mapleton, Dulong Lookout is not an obvious spot to stop at. It’s one of those places you drive passed because you are on your way heading to another destination, such as going to Mapleton or on your way back down from the Blackall Range.
The views are fabulous, and a great lookout to either start or finish a day trip (or longer) along the Blackall Range. Grab a takeaway coffee or bring your thermos to enjoy at the lookout.

A platform extends out to give a better view, mostly unobstructed but there are a couple of taller trees starting to grow into the view. The platform’s barrier has padlocks attached to each bar, clearly, a location frequented by young lovers (and maybe a few not so young) leaving a symbol of their love.
There are a couple of picnic tables in a shelter and a separate bench seat in the open. A plaque says the bench seat is there in memory of Christine Achurch (Winkle) and Jim Achurch. Jim Achurch won gold for Australia in 1954 for javelin in the Vancouver Commonwealth Games.

He took up athletics to improve his fitness for playing tennis. While jogging around an oval he noticed people throwing a stick. He had a go at throwing the stick and by the afternoon was throwing it further than the instructors. Jim attributed his throwing skills throwing rocks at rabbits on the farm.
There are no toilets at Dulong Lookout, however, there are toilets at Kanyana Park
100m back towards the main road. Similar views can be had at Kanyana Park but Dulong Lookout is that little bit higher and a wider view overall.
