The Customs House in Goondiwindi was established to collect customs duties for goods coming into and out of Queensland prior to the Federation of Australia in 1901. It is the only inland Customs House in Australia still in existence.
The museum in the Customs House has displays to discover the history of Goondiwindi and how it was developed.

Outside, there are displays of agriculture equipment, including an old tractor and a wooden horse-drawn cart.
The name Goondiwindi comes from the Aboriginal word Goonawinna, meaning the resting place of birds.
We didn’t go inside Custom House as it was closed when we were there, for most of December in 2023 through to early March 2024.
