The Gables is a small park on the western side of Point Vernon in Hervey Bay with picnic tables, BBQs and toilets.
It is a lovely and quite location for relaxing and enjoying the sea breeze. There is sand at the beach, however, the coastline at this part of Hervey Bay is rocky.
The sand looks boring compared to some of the other Hervey Bay foreshore beaches. Snorkelling around the brown looking rocks viewed from the shore, shows there is more colourful coral to be discovered in the water.
The Gables is a great spot to start a walk south along the shoreline to The Pines Park
, or head west across to Esa Park and Blackstump Park.
There is a boat ramp suitable for small boats. It can be shallow at low and high tide with rocks.
The brown sign shows dogs are allowed on leash, however, dogs are allowed off leash south of the boat ramp with a sign showing where your furry family members can run free.

At the northern end of The Gables, where the point turns around, there is a tall post. The post with a platform on top. It is an Osprey nest, used by osprey every year, the same as the one used at Osprey House
in Brisbane.
The Gables Boarding House
The Gables is named after a boarding house built in the 1880s, first called Bayview Boarding House. It was built with the assumption that the railway would continue through to Point Vernon. It was later known as Vernon, and later still as The Gables.
The Gables had stables and coach houses added in the early 1900s. By the 1950s, The Gables were in such a deteriorated state that it was decided to demolish it.
